Workout, Rest, Workout. Wash Rinse Repeat

Hey Crew!

Rest days are AS IMPORTANT to our daily training as our actual training is. So, let's talk about rest.

You work hard in the gym and you break down muscle tissue in the process. This is natural, healthy, and all part of the process of getting stronger. Being sore is good! Feeling hurt, or being injured is definitely NOT good. When you exercise, you MUST give your body some time to recover. Eating well, drinking lots of water, sleeping (one of the MOST important), and dialling back the intensity every now and again is vital to your recovery. This is especially true if you're like me and you're working your way up through the masters divisions. As we age, our bodies just don't want to recover as quickly. CrossFit recommends a 3 days on, 1 day off schedule to maximize your recovery and growth. If you're dying to do something on that day off, go for a walk/run, play some sports with your kids, whatever keeps you moving at a lesser intensity. You can also still come to the gym, don't get me wrong, just with the understanding that you aren't going to burn the house down every single workout. Leave a little in the tank for the next one so you're hungry for more and not wishing you'd listened to me sooner.

With this in mind, we will be posting regular workouts to accompany our stretch sessions on Thursdays and not necessarily active recovery style WODS. We all have different schedules and we'd like everyone to have a chance at a good workout when they're able to make it in. So, knowing when it's time to take a day off or to turn down the go-go juice is up to you and your schedule. Please talk us if you have any questions or concerns about how much you should be doing in the gym. We'd love to chat about it!
